Lots of animals on the Galapagos Islands are unique and the only way they could survive in such harsh climate was because they adapted to suit their surroundings. The islands are located in the Archipelago off the west coast of South America. The Galapagos islands are made up of 16 islands and as each island ages, they become smaller and smaller. The reason is that over time, the islands sink under their own weight and weather also eventually carves it away.
The Marine Iguana is an animal that has done a lot of adaption. They used to be land iguanas that floated to the Galapagos on rafts made of vegetation. They adapted to having longer tails and black skin because their tails help them swim and their black skin attracts heat.
The Galapagos Waved Albatross spends most of their time on wing and they land once a year at Espanola to breed. 35,000 settle there every year. Their enormous wings have a wingspan of 2 1/2 metres.
For social studies next term we should definitely do history about China because China has one of the longest and most interesting histories.

Responsibilities and Roles that I'm doing this year :D
This year there were many letters that we had to write to many different teachers about what roles or responsibilities we wanted to take up. I chose to take up two this year, First Aid and Librarian, though I only got into one of them, which was Librarian. Even though I didn't get into First Aid, I still enjoy helping around sometimes. I was a librarian last year and this year I also got chosen to be a librarian I love being a librarian because firstly, Penny is the best librarian ever, secondly, I love reading books and lastly, I love being around in the library with my best friends. There is another responsibility that I have taken up and it is to be a Milk Monitor. I didn't actually sign up for it. Well, actually no one signed up for it in our class so there had to be volunteers for Rm11. Calvin volunteered for the role first, then asked me if I wanted to join, so I agreed to do it. Basically, Joseph does Room 1, 2 and 10. Frankie delivers milk to Rooms 4, 5, 8, and 9. Calvin and I do Rooms 6, 7, 11, and 12. It's actually pretty fun. I have no suggestions for the roles. These are my responsibilities for this year.

ASB Get Wise $$$
Today a guy from ASB came to our class and taught us a little bit about money. I think the lesson was worthwhile because I learnt stuff about credit cards and eftpos cards. The key points from the lesson was that if you earn money, you should save some too. My financial goal is to save up enough money to buy a Shih Tzu or Maltese puppy or a giant unicorn. I don't know if I manage my money well, because I leave that to my mom but I think probably no.

Mission Fair- Cookie Quarters
Last Friday was the Mission Fair. These are the people that were in my group: Katherine, Catherine, Sharon, Caitlin and Shantel. Our group name was Cookie Quarters. The name was made by Katherine and that was pretty much a last minute name but I think it's great. We were supposed to put up posters at the foyer but then I spelt quarters wrong so it took forever to change and we end up not even putting the poster up. For our activities we did Lollies in a jar, Cupcakes, Biscuits, Chocolate Marshmallows and stuff. The most popular one was a game where you throw a coin at the chocolate and if it lands on it then you get to keep it. The second most popular thing was the Chocolate Marshmallows and the cookies. I made the Chocolate Marshmallows the night before with a lot of help but I thought that it looked pretty gross, but still. It tasted so good!! I couldn't stop stuffing my face with it and neither could my sister. Personally, I think we did pretty well and at the end we found out that we raised about $2400 for Vanuatu after the cyclone. I really liked working with my best friends and overall I think it was a great last mission fair.
